Each year, the Guild chooses a new theme, and for 2023 their idea was playing on the book Where the Wild Things Are, set in their location, on the island of Castine, Maine. They requested trees reminiscent of the native pine and elms, and Castine icons such as the Dyce lighthouse, moose, blueberries, lobsters, the ocean, and big white colonial houses. They also were thinking of cars, planes, and buses arriving in darkness on a road, to convey the feeling of the nightmarish journey it takes to travel to the island, leading to a bright destination of the Guild School.
